Former champions Rusea’s High lost back to back games in the fist round for the first time since 2004, 15 years ago after they were beaten 3-1 by Green Island High in their rescheduled return round ISSA/Wata DaCosta Cup Zone B game played in Green Island on Wednesday.

It was revenge for Green Island who lost by the same margin two weeks earlier at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea and snapped a three games winless run in the process.

Martino Gordon scored a brace to lead Green Island and Ajay Reid got the other as they moved up to joint third place with Hopewell High, both on seven points.

It was the second time Green Island were beating Rusea’s in the first round after getting their first in the 2014 season and Rusea’s have lost just four games in Zone B in the last 12 seasons with Frome getting the better of them three times over the period.

The loss came after Rusea’s High were beaten 1-0 by zone leaders Frome Technical and prior to this season, was the first time since 2004 when they lost three games in a row, beaten then by Frome Technical, Grange Hill and Knockalva Technical.

Frome Technical leads Zone B with 18 points from their perfect record of six wins and will win the zone one Saturday if they can avoid a loss to Rusea’s in Lucea.
