Game action between St. James and Cornwall College

Frome Technical, McGrath High and Annotto Bay High are the first schools to book their spots in the second round of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after Saturday rain affected round of matches.

Frome Technical from Zone B, semi-finalists last year and McGrath High from Zone K both won their games to extend perfect win records while Annotto Bay who were not in action, benefited from Brimmervale High’s 1-0 win over Tacky High in Zone J.

Eleven of the 37 games that were scheduled on Saturday were affected by rain or lightning and will have to be rescheduled for a later date.

Giovanni Mitoo scored a double for Frome Technical as they beat Green Island High 3-1 to extend their lead in Zone B while taking over the lead in the scoring race with 11 goals.

McGrath High continued their fairy tale season, winning their fourth straight game, beating Enid Bennett High 3-1 as Peter McGregor scored a brace.

McGrath High were advancing past the first round of the competition for the first time since the 2005 season, 14 years ago as they improved to 12 points.

Annotto Bay are also celebrating qualification despite not kicking a ball on Saturday; Brimmervale High edged Tacky High 1-0 to stay in second place and moved closer to qualification themselves.
