Schoolboys football could be the first major organized football competition to return after the suspension of sports in the island because of the COVID19 pandemic.

All football leagues have been cancelled since mid-May after the Jamaica Football Federation called it quits in the 2019-20 season out of concern for the virus that has infected over five million persons worldwide and has been blamed for the death of nearly 350,000.

The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has started a series of consultations that could lead to the staging of the Manning and daCosta Cup competitions but according to president Keith Wellington, the kickoffs would be a month later than the traditional first weekend of September.

In published reports Wellington said ISSA has been having consultations with the major stakeholders after which they will meet to make a decision which they expect to be made public in late June.

In a virtual meeting with coaches from both football competitions earlier in May, it was heard as well that coaches were warned that there should be no organized training before the end of June as there were no guarantees the competitions would get underway.

So far it was heard there have been meetings with the ISSA executive, media partners, and coaches with meetings with the principals left before a decision was made whether to go forward or not.
