Its all squared between the Rural and Corporate Areas schools as DaCosta Cup holders Clarendon College and Excelsior High made progress past the first round of the ISSA Champions Cup after contrasting wins over Wolmers Boys and Dinthill Technical in the opening games played at the national stadium on Friday.

Clarendon College scored two early goals to see off the fancied Wolmers Boys 2-0 as what was expected to be the highlight of the first round failed to live up to expectations while Excelsior beat Dinthill Technical in sudden death penalties after they played out a 0-0 draw in regulation time.

Sheldon Smart and Omar Reid scored early in the game as Clarendon College started quickly and rocked the Manning Cup team back on their heels.

Reid had a hand in both goals for Clarendon College as his shot early in the game beat the Wolmers goalkeeper but came back off the crossbar and Smart responded quickest to blast it into the top of the goal to open the scoring.

Reid then curled a ball directly from a corner kick a few minutes later to double the scores.

In the first game Dinthill Technical and Excelsior wasted a handful of scoring chances and then produced a scrappy penalty shoot-out where the daCosta Cup team held a 2-0 advantage but failed to hold on as they finished 3-3 before Excelsior made use of their second chance and scored on their first chance in sudden death
