Saturday will be derby day in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition with three big games lined up.
Defending champions Rusea’s High and Frome Technical will meet in what should be an exciting game at the Collin Miller Sports Complex; Cornwall College takes on St James High while St Elizabeth Technical and Munro College will meet at the St Elizabeth Sports Complex in Santa Cruz.
Rusea’s High leads Zone B with 12 points after four straight wins, followed by Frome Tech on nine after three wins, and both schools have combined to terrorise the zone with 31 goals between them so far.
The Aaron Lawrence coached Frome Tech has scored five goals in each of their three games played so far but Rusea’s lead with 16 goals from their four games played.
Frome’s Giovauni Mittoo who has scored three consecutive hat tricks will lead the attack, while Kenroy Campbell will hope to continue his hot scoring streak for Rusea’s High.
Cornwall College is unbeaten against St James High since the 2013 season and will hope to extend their win streak to four games today when the two Montego Bay teams meet at Jarrett Park.
St James won their first two games under new coach Garfield Anderson then got just one point from their next two games and are coming off a 2-0 loss to Green Pond High.
Just two points separate the top three teams in Zone A with Cornwall College and Green Pond on nine and St James on seven, but Cornwall has played three games, one less than the other two.
The Cornwall offense is slowly coming together with Shavon McDonald and Matthew Thorpe both scoring two goals each against Anchovy last week after Aiden Jokomba scored two against Green Pond the previous game.
Seven points separate the two teams in the St Elizabeth derby as STETHS leads with 10 points while the once mighty Munro College is in fourth place on three points and is coming off a loss to Maggotty and after drawing with newcomers Sydney Pagon.
STETHS suffered a slight hiccup on Wednesday playing out a dramatic 1-1 draw against Lacovia High, missing a penalty in time added on and will seek to bounce back against Munro. The Patrick ‘Jackie’ Walters era at Munro has poorly started and they will have to wait at least one more year before they can win their first daCosta Cup title since 1964.
