McGrath High scored a massive upset on Saturday’s opening day of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after edging former champions Dinthill Technical 1-0 in their Zone K game played at McGrath.

It was the first win for McGrath over the two time champions in more than a decade, going back to the 2006 season and was also the first goal they had managed against Dinthill since 2009 in a 1-1 draw.

Dinthill had dominated the games against McGrath High outscoring them 49-0 over their last 10 meetings.

McGrath and Ben Francis KO champions Charlemont High are tied for the lead in Zone K after Charlemont edged Enid Bennett High (formerly Big Walk) 2-1 in their game.

Sydney Pagon High scored their first win in the competition on Saturday after beating Lacovia High 1-0 in Zone E action.

Sydney Pagon are playing in the competition for the second year and managed just two draws last year.

They are tied for the lead with Munro College who beat Newell High 2-0 and Maggotty who edged Black River 1-0.

Oracabessa High got off to a fast start with a 5-1 beating of Iona High in Zone I as Ocho Rios beat Browns Town 3-0 and York Castle and Marcus Garvey ended in a 1-1 draw.
